5 Video Marketing Predictions for 2015

2014 was a huge year for content marketing, and video marketing in particular. If you search for video marketing online then you’ll find some mind-boggling statistics! One of our favourites has to be this:

“Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on YouTube, so almost one hour for every person on Earth!”

Now that you’ve got your head around that, take a read-through our video marketing predictions for next year. Hopefully this will give you the head-start you need to get your videos seen in 2015!

1. More marketers will be getting visual!

As the above statistic proves, video marketing is highly popular already, and we predict that in 2015 it will be even more so. Studies from this year have found that 69% of marketers have used video marketing, and another 31% plan to. That means that 100% of marketers will have used video marketing at some point before the end of 2015! And you know what that means? More competition!

If you only do three things to keep yourself consistently ahead of the competition for next year, do these:

1. Identify your audience
All marketers have an ideal buyer in mind that they are trying to target. You should use this to identify what your audience will want from your videos. However, the answer to this isn’t always ‘Our Product’ or ‘Our Service’, go deeper than that and find out what will entertain your ideal buyers.

2. Put your videos where they can see them

The next step is to put your videos in front of your ideal audience. To do this you must figure out what social networking sites they are most likely to use, what tags they will be searching for on YouTube, and where a video will best be suited on your website.

Need we say more?!

2. More videos will be watched on the go!

Smartphones and other portable devices are becoming more and more popular, and video marketing needs to evolve to keep up with this trend. An article published at the beginning on 2014 estimated that by the end of the year there would be 2.23 billion smartphone users. When Santa Claus comes in a few weeks we’re sure this number will rapidly increase, and continue to do so throughout the new year. And, with 69% of smartphone users agreeing that videos are a perfect solution for smartphone viewing (because video offers a quick way for consumers to grasp an overview of a product) can you really afford to lose out on approximately 70% of 2 billion users?

Guess not.

It seems that in 2015 mobile optimization will move away from being a nice advantage and become a necessity. Studies show that over 20% of ALL video views are happening on mobile devices, and more than 77% of all tablet users watch videos on their devices too.

For each video you create you should ensure that the video size and splash screens are both device agnostic. Mobiles are quite personal devices so if you get mobile optimization right then you will have a chance to deepen the relationship between your customers and your brand.

3. Short form video will become more popular!

By now we’re all familiar with the new kids on the block, Instagram (4 years old), and Vine (almost 2 years old!), but are you taking full advantage of them both?

Instagram has 200 million active users each month, and 100 million people watch Vine videos every month, so they’re both beginning to become serious contenders within social media, and therefore, a great place to post marketing videos. It’s because of this that 42% of marketers plan to increase Instagram usage in 2015.

Continuing from point two, more footage is being viewed on portable devices, and the best suited content for platforms like this is something short, engaging, and fun. Vine videos are 6 seconds long, and Instagram videos can be up to 15 seconds, so there’s not a lot of time to say what you want to. Videos like this have to be strategically planned and, at the same time, look effortless!

Vine and Instagram are very different to other video sharing sites because they are there so you can show the human side of your brand. Check out these examples of futuristic brands that are already doing it right!

Red Bull

Red Bull are very active on their Instagram site and their videos are always engaging, and appealing to their target audience. The video above is great because you see the Red Bull logo SO many times, and yet you don’t feel like they’re advertising to you. Oreo

Oreo’s Vine videos are always light-hearted and on-point. No pressure to buy, no showing off, just plain old-fashioned fun!

4. ‘How-to’ videos will become the new ‘try-before-you-buy’!

We predict that in 2015 more ‘How-to’ video tutorials and product visualisation videos will be made, mainly thanks to the release of Apple’s new operating system (iOS8) earlier this year. App previews are short and snappy, much like Vine and Instagram, but their message is more corporate – a simple walk-through of an App. They are limited to thirty seconds with the sole intention of showing users what they are getting before they download an app.

Product visualisation videos are proven to encourage customers to stay on your site for longer, and also make people 144% more likely to make a purchase! Trust is a big thing for internet shoppers because they don’t actually get to touch, see, smell, hear, or taste their products until they have paid for them. Introducing videos will give customers a better idea of exactly what it is they are buying.

5. Video marketing will become visual storytelling!

To market your videos successfully in 2015 you must make yourself relevant to your audience by telling a story – either one that makes your viewers laugh, or one that makes them cry. Emotional content is shareable content – and shareable content is just about the most effective marketing money can buy. As Red Bull and Oreo showed us above, your video doesn’t have to be all about your brand, or what you’re selling, you can promote your brand just by producing content that appeals to your audience. For a great, and apt (considering it’s December) example of visual storytelling to promote your brand watch the video below:
